Our Aims

Our aim is to link up special pets to special owners and help them to be happy. Every pet should have a home.

We would like to:-

1) re-unite lost pets with their owners. At the moment thousands of lost pets are euthanased by the SPCA monthly.

2) re-house pets that owners are no longer able to keep, preferably straight from old to new owner. It would be great to avoid pets having to be kept in kennels at rescue centres because it stresses them. The only between-house stay should be a visit to the vet's for sterilization and vaccinations where necessary or even to a trainer if training will make re-housing easier. (Some pets have social problems or are large and people prefer trained large animals.)

3) make veterinary health care affordable and accessible to all. Large parts of the country have no veterinary clinics. We would like mobile clinics as well as permanent ones in these areas. Many people can’t afford veterinary fees. We’d like to implement subsidized, and where necessary free, veterinary services countrywide with all vets.

4) sterilize and vaccinate pets on a grand scale. Sterilization will eliminate unwanted babies and to a great degree prevent fighting amongst pets which is a big cause of them being euthanased or re-housed. Also it can save people's lives because uncastrated males of certain breeds, like rotweilers, boerboels and pitbulls, can attack people - often their own families - when a bitch is on heat in the neighbourhood.

5) educate people about pets - for instance on

a) sterilization

	- that a female does not need to have babies before being spayed,
	- that sterilized pets are much less likely to fight,
	- that in the case of dogs, sterilization will not effect their protectiveness

b) pet needs

	- that pack or herd animals, such as dogs, horses and pigs, need company when their owners are not with them, and mental stimulation such as outings so that they don’t get too bored.
	- good nutrition - often not what is recommended by vets!
	- parasite control
	- other health tips
	- training and exercise
	- housing

6) help provide access to pets to people who can't own one. It's very important for all of us to be able to have that. Pets are our strongest link with nature and the earth. They 'ground' us in the unnatural world that we are building for ourselves. We don't have inhibitions in hugging and kissing animals that we often have with other humans. We can give and receive love unconditionally from animals with no fear of rejection. They can be our friends. They can even be the spiritual partners that we might not have in the humans around us. Institutions could adopt ’communal’ pets for groups of people to look after and love. For instance, wouldn't it be lovely if old age homes could adopt old age pets for the people there who have often had to give up their own pets. Schools can have pets. Children brought up without pets are impoverished and robbed of the chance to learn the value of loyalty and love and experience it for themselves.

To achieve our goals we need an efficient, educational website able to

	- link-up lost and found pets,
	- link-up pets needing homes and owners wanting pets,
	- link-up a network of vets and trainers so that pets are sterilized and vaccinated and, when necessary, trained before going to a new home,
	- link-up to other animal welfare organizations and individuals to unite our efforts.

A kind soul has offered to make our website and create a suitable data base to achieve the above FREE OF CHARGE. We are very grateful to her and are eagerly looking forward to the finished product.
